Our tech expert, Nyika Allen, President, and CEO of New Mexico Technology Council, joined New Mexico Living to talk about a local techie startup who is also in the coffee business.

A local Santa Fe company, using the methodology from nanotechnology, to transition coffee from a commodity to artisanal drink. The ‘Third Wave Coffee’ device, allows for uniformity of saturation leading to a perfect cup of coffee, while it maintains temperature with a recirculating boiler.

The Third Wave Coffee device will be available on Kickstarter next week and look for this coffee maker to soon be on a future broadcast of New Mexico Living.

Tax Prep Tech Help

Our talking tech expert, Nyika Allen, President and CEO of New Mexico Tech Council, joined New Mexico Living to explore some of the best tech options to help take the stress out of filing our taxes.

She brought with her two apps to help you this year. The first is from the Internal Revenue Service, which allows you to not only file your federal taxes, but you can track you return, refund and make payments right from the app. The second, from Intuit, is a calculator which allows you to estimate your refund or expected payment.

Both apps are compatible with iOS and android.

9th Annual Women In Technology Celebration

Tech expert Nyika Allen, President, and CEO of the New Mexico Technology Council joined New Mexico Living to invite us to their 9th annual Women in Technology Celebration.

The celebration is designed to recognize the achievements of women working in New Mexico’s technology arena, promoting the role of women in tech and science, and encouraging women to pursue careers in these fields. The day will include awards to deserving women in tech and a scholarship for someone who is continuing their education in the field.

Our very own Carmelina Hart will be emceeing the event on Thursday, March 2nd at the Sandia Golf Club. Tickets and sponsorships are available online.

Reading with your children just got a whole lot easier and a little less expensive with a new app called Epic!

New Mexico Living’s resident tech expert, Nyika Allen explores the kids app which features more than 15,000 high quality books.

“It’s a kid friendly digital library,” explains Nyika.

The app contains a library of age appropriate reading materials in both fiction and non-fiction, that can be read online or downloaded for later reading and listening.

It also allows you to build a profile for multiple children within the app, so each child can have a custom library saved for them.

It is an app that works for children, parents and educators.
